According to a report from Guangzhou Daily, the Guangdong Radio and Television Station officially launched its 4K ultra-high-definition test broadcast on Friday. This marks the first 4K test channel in China, signaling a major step forward in the country’s push for high-resolution television.
The station’s officials have emphasized that they will focus on producing original 4K content while also incorporating selected programs from other sources. Their goal is to enhance self-sufficiency in 4K programming. To support this, Guangdong is building a national 4K creative base, with an ambitious target of producing 1,000 hours of 4K content annually.
Choosing Guangdong as a 4K content testing ground makes sense. The region already has a solid foundation for the ultra-high-definition industry. Companies like Skyworth, Konka, TCL, China Star Optoelectronics, and Huawei have established a complete industrial chain, covering chips, panels, and finished products. This strong local infrastructure makes it easier to implement and scale 4K services effectively.
As the demand for 4K continues to grow, Guangdong's efforts could serve as a model for other regions in China, helping to drive the nationwide adoption of ultra-high-definition technology. With better content and stronger industry support, the future of 4K TV looks promising.
