The television brand’s entry into the micro-investment field isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Micro-whales have already dipped their toes in, and now they’re venturing into LED micro-projectors, promoting the idea of a smart cinema. At their 2nd Anniversary Conference, the first unveiling of the Hitachi Projection happened, and today, it’s at the Zhongguancun Online Projector Testing Center that we’re seeing the project, specifically the iCAN Theater X1s. Its standout features include brightness and system—boasting a nominal brightness of 450 ANSI lumens and an extensive library of video content, making it a competitive product.

When measured under midday light, the X1S micro-projector’s brightness proved impressive enough. This is a miniature projector using an LED light source, which is well-known for its excellent color performance, low power consumption, and long lifespan. Additionally, the iCAN Theater X1s offers a resolution of 1280 × 800 and includes an automatic keystone correction feature. Considering the overall configuration, the iCAN Theater X1s ranks among the top-tier micro-projectors.

The brand's television expertise is also evident here. Their system UI design, resource accumulation, and system fluency optimization surpass those of traditional projector brands. With a background in smart TV system R&D, it’s logical that they’d have a natural edge in system integration. After all, the system architecture of LCD TVs and micro-projectors is fundamentally similar. This makes the iCAN Theater X1s highly anticipated.

Looking at the Internet TV landscape, it has already amazed many users. Will projection technology continue to surprise us? Today, we’ll explore the performance of the iCAN Theater X1s. Based on the test data, the nominal 450 ANSI lumens measured 330 ANSI lumens, achieving a compliance rate of 73%. This is a commendable performance, and its color gamut reached 89.6%, significantly surpassing the 60% color gamut coverage of traditional bulb projectors.
After reviewing these metrics, the iCAN Smart Theater X1S can be considered a "strong starter." Now, let’s delve into the overall performance of the iCAN Smart Theater X1S. Without further ado, here’s the review.
The iCAN Smart Theater X1S boasts a metallic body with a champagne gold finish, exuding a luxurious atmosphere. The body measures 22 cm in length and 3.2 cm in thickness, roughly the size of a book, making its compact design visually appealing. The product features a 42-time sandblasted matte alloy design, catering to the modern city's pursuit of high-quality aesthetics. The anodized finish adds elegance, elevating the product’s appeal.

The iCAN Smart Cinema X1S has a projection ratio of 1.2, meaning a 1-meter-wide screen can be projected from a distance of 1.2 meters. It also supports automatic keystone correction, allowing users to achieve a clear picture via the remote control’s focus button. Air intake is located at the bottom of the device, with outlets on the side, ensuring cool airflow from beneath the light source, reducing the risk of overheating.

The iCAN Smart Theater X1S interface is rich, featuring a 1.4a HDMI port and two USB ports (one 2.0 and one 3.0), supporting local content playback. The lens cap design allows for shutdown and boot operations. The system UI is smooth and intuitive, offering easy access to movies, videos, and educational content. The UI design is clean and efficient, with no noticeable lag during operation.

The iCAN Smart Theater X1S offers a variety of display modes, including a rich selection of content and resources. It’s equipped with Youku, Tudou, iQIYI, Sohu, PPTV, and CIBN’s own content, making it a comprehensive entertainment platform. The wireless projection function allows users to stream their Android phone screens directly to the big screen, provided both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

In a dark room setting, the iCAN Smart Theater X1S performed exceptionally well. The color reproduction and contrast were impressive, with vibrant colors and sharp details. The corner brightness was consistent, avoiding the common issue of dark corners in other projectors. Color accuracy tests showed the iCAN Smart Theater X1S could reproduce colors well, though there were minor issues with color cast in warmer tones.

Focus testing revealed a clear and sharp image, with no noticeable thermal defocus issues. The ANSI brightness of 330 lumens achieved a compliance rate of 73.3%, exceeding the 60% standard and nearing the excellent benchmark of 80%. The contrast ratio of 179:1 ensured crisp images without affecting usability.
Under normal office lighting conditions, the iCAN Smart Theater X1S performed admirably. Even during the brightest part of the day, the 50-inch screen remained bright and colorful, though projecting an 80-inch screen became challenging. For optimal results, the author recommends projecting sizes between 60 to 80 inches in a dark environment and limiting daytime projections to 50 inches.
In summary, the iCAN Theater X1s is a formidable product with strengths in design, brightness, and system. The lens cover, cooling duct design, and polished metallic body highlight its build quality. From a software perspective, the aggregation of content from platforms like Youku, Tudou, and iQIYI provides a rich viewing experience. Despite lacking an auto-focus feature, which many competitors now offer, the iCAN Theater X1s remains a commendable product. As an established Internet TV brand, they’ve demonstrated creativity and innovation, and we look forward to even better offerings in the future.
