Industry 4.0 is one of the ten future initiatives outlined in Germany's "Germany 2020 High Technology Strategy." In simple terms, it can be described as "Internet + manufacturing." In the U.S., it's referred to as the "Industrial Internet," while in China, it's known as "Made in China 2025." Despite different names, the core idea remains the same: intelligent manufacturing. As the Shanghai Electronics Show in Munich approaches on March 14, what kind of industrial products will be on display?
Let’s start by taking a closer look at China’s industry. According to the China Industry 4.0 Process Report released at the end of 2015, more than half of the companies have a comprehensive understanding of the concept of Industry 4.0. Among them, 31.13% believe that Industry 4.0 is leading a new wave of technological change, while 22.87% see it as an inevitable trend in response to industry challenges. When asked about the most recognized features of Industry 4.0, the top four choices were intelligence (16.78%), digitalization (13.82%), connectivity (12.83%), and instrumentation (12.41%). These figures indicate that Chinese manufacturing companies have a solid awareness of Industry 4.0.

Fujitsu will be showcasing its Transphorm GaN power devices at the Shanghai Electronics Show in Munich. Transphorm is a well-known semiconductor company, founded in 2007 in Silicon Valley. It has attracted investments from major players like Fujitsu, KKR, and Google. The company has already mass-produced GaN-based power solutions for server power supplies, solar inverters, and electric vehicle chargers.
Fujitsu and Transphorm have had a close relationship since 2014. The two companies integrated their GaN power device businesses, with Fujitsu transferring its R&D team and intellectual property to Transphorm.
