Some components still require manual assembly, and key personnel in the battery department have left the company, causing delays in production. Tesla’s performance this year hasn’t been great. Just a month into 2018, several incidents have shaken the company’s reputation. In early January, a Tesla car in Chongqing caught fire spontaneously in an underground parking garage without any collision. Later on, a batch of parts from the September to December 2013 period were recalled for Model S vehicles due to issues with the Takada airbag. And just a few days later, another major incident occurred.
According to internal sources at Tesla, the company is facing serious challenges in battery production. The current process involves a lot of manual work, which is more problematic than initially anticipated. By mid-December, some batteries were still being assembled by hand, and there was a shortage of skilled workers. To support the battery line, Tesla even sent some employees from its partner, Panasonic. Additionally, quality control issues have emerged, with some Model 3 batteries leaving the factory with potential defects.
However, according to recent updates, Tesla has officially stated that the Model 3 production is progressing smoothly and that no major production obstacles are currently being faced. In this statement, the company addressed concerns about delayed production and quality issues with its high-end electric vehicle model.
