Front projection? Rear projection? Side projection? How to install a home theater projector?

[Home Theater Network] If you look at the performance parameter table of your home projector, you can find that there are four types of installation methods: front projection, rear projection, hanging projection, and desktop. This can easily lead to the illusion that this is the classification of projector projection. However, this classification method is unscientific and is highly misleading. We can't because a machine is a front projection, so it won't be a rear projection or a hoist. On the contrary, most projectors support at least two projection methods - this is why the author thinks this classification method is unscientific. .

The correct point of view should be: front projection, rear projection, and hanging projection. The desktop is the four projection methods that the projector can support. The four are intertwined, that is, if one machine only supports hanging and rear projection, then This means that the machine can be rear-projected in a hoisting or desktop manner, and does not support any form of front projection. If a machine does not support the hoist, it means that the machine is either rear-projection or front-projection. You can't use the hoisting method, but you can only use it on the desktop. Specifically, the front projection corresponds to the rear projection, and the hang projection corresponds to the desktop.

In addition, the recent side-projection is also a kind of projection method, then what is the side shot? What are the characteristics of each of the four projection methods? What is the suitable use for the occasion? Several projection methods are analyzed one by one.

Front projection? Rear projection? Hanging? How to install the home theater projector?

Positive investment

The front projection, also known as the front projection, is the most widely used and most supported installation method for projectors. The so-called front projection means that the audience and the projector are on the same side of the projection screen. It is not without reason that the positive investment method is so widely used.

advantage

1. Save space

Most of the reason why fans buy home projectors is that the projector can cast a larger screen for home theater in a smaller space. In order to obtain the largest possible projected area, in addition to using a wide-angle lens, one of the most important methods is to increase the projection distance as much as possible. Since the viewer and the projector are on the same side, the ideal situation is that the projection distance is equal to or even greater than the viewing distance of the viewer, so that the projected area can be maximized. From another point of view, to get the same projected area, the front projection is more space-saving than the rear projection.

2. Low requirements on projection screen

The positive projection method relies on the projection screen to reflect the light, so unless the image is demanding, as long as the general projection screen can meet the requirements, even if someone uses a white wall, it is not bad. Therefore, the positive projection method has low requirements on the projection screen, and the flexibility and environmental adaptability are stronger. That is to say, in most occasions, the positive investment method can be selected without hesitation.

Disadvantage

1. Poor projection effect

This "poor" is for rear projection. If the viewer's viewing environment is a brighter occasion for teaching, training, conferences, exhibitions, advertisements, etc., since the light path will be disturbed by light, the image will become blurred or even the color will be distorted. If the reflection deviation of the projection screen is taken into account Inside, the effect is hard to satisfy.

2. Affect the environment

Because the projector is on the same side as the viewer, the appearance, interface, and wiring of the projector are exposed. Even projectors with a wireless network connection can only reduce the part of the wiring associated with the network connection, and most of the basic wiring cannot be saved. Whether it's a family, a classroom, an office or a presentation hall, the messy wiring will make a big difference. Therefore, the projectors that are being cast are generally hoisted to solve this problem.

3. Larger noise

Although the noise of the projector is normal under normal working conditions, the viewer is on the same side of the projector, and the distance is too close, which obviously makes the noise problem a factor that has to be considered.

Summary: The positive investment method is generally applicable to general occasions, and the most suitable for use in a dark environment (such as a theater), but if the image quality is concerned, it is really unable to meet the needs of high-end users. In addition, the spider-like signal line is also difficult to accept.

Rear projection

In addition to the traditional rear projection TV with rear projection, more and more projectors now support this installation. The so-called rear projection refers to the viewer and the projector separating the sides of the projection screen. Why do so many projectors support rear projection?

advantage

Good projection effect does not affect the appearance

In the rear projection mode, the viewer sees the transmitted light, thereby avoiding the blur caused by the reflection of the projection screen. Moreover, the projected light is usually transmitted in the closed darkroom, which greatly reduces the light interference, and the projection effect rises to a higher level. In other words, the only interference is from the viewer and the projection screen. It can be said that the rear projection method has the advantages of a large projection area of the projector and a clear and bright rear projection television. Although the rear-projection type also has a line, all the lines can be hidden in the dark room. The so-called eyes are not seen as net, and naturally there is no problem of damaging the environment. In addition, if the dark room is embedded in the wall, the whole room will be more stylish.

Disadvantage

1. Take up a lot of space

As mentioned in the above-mentioned main cast, to project the same size of the area, theoretically, the rear projection needs twice the depth of the forward throw, which puts higher requirements on the application site. This is the biggest factor hindering the development of the rear projection method. In fact, there is no way to solve this problem. Rear projection refraction is one of the most commonly used methods. After one or more reflections, it is projected onto the screen, which reduces the depth distance and saves space.

2. Small projected area

The small projection area makes the rear-projection mode suffer from enemies: on the one hand, it is under the pressure of a large area of the front projection method, and on the other hand, it is oppressed by the rear projection TV market.

Summary: The rear projection method is suitable for those who have high requirements on image quality, as well as in a luxurious environment with a wide space.

Hanging method

The sling is corresponding to the table projection (also known as the desktop), and both the front and the rear can be used for both the hang and the table. The so-called "hanging" refers to fixing the projector to the ceiling by bolts or the like by attaching a hanger. The table type is to place the projector on a horizontal surface in the room. The main difference between the two is whether it is fixed or not. Some people think that the table can be moved at will, isn't it more convenient? Actually, in general, the ceiling installation is more beneficial than the disadvantages.

advantage

1. Reduce projector cost

Because there is no need to move, the weight and size of the projector does not matter, which indirectly saves the user's investment in portability. That is to say, if the user chooses to use the hoist, once he chooses the model, he can choose some "big chunks" and more affordable projectors without any scruples. In addition to the cost-effective portable projector, the huge size of the projector is much better. Moreover, the fixing protects the projector from "bumps", especially during normal operation, the vibration of the projector directly causes the filament to vibrate, which is tantamount to suicidal behavior. Extending lamp life is also an important means of reducing projector costs.

2. Easy to adjust projection angle and position

Although the projector is equipped with a vertical keystone correction function, the correction function is at the expense of image quality, so it is not necessary to use it as much as possible. Therefore, it should be installed so that the center point of the projector lens is on the same horizontal line as the center point of the projection screen. However, with a desktop-mounted projector, the center point is always below the center point of the screen, so vertical trapezoidal correction is inevitable. Another installation requirement is that the projection light should be perpendicular to the projection screen, otherwise horizontal trapezoidal distortion will occur, and horizontal keystone correction is required, which is a luxury function supported by high-end machines. Therefore, as long as the projection distance and the center point position are calculated clearly during lifting, it is possible to avoid frequent shifting and correction in the future. Therefore, the fixed lifting seems to be inconvenient, but actually saved a lot of effort.

3. Conducive to the arrangement of the line

Although the hoisted projector often gives a sudden feeling, its line can pass through the trunking or through the center of the bracket to the ceiling. Moreover, the fixed hoisting can be planned in advance when the civil engineering is co-ordinated, which is unmatched by the desktop.

Disadvantage

Signal attenuation

The hoisted projector is usually far away from the signal source, and considering the twists and turns of the laying line, it is common for the signal cable to be larger than 15 meters. However, the signal transmission beyond the transmission distance causes the signal input to the projector to be attenuated. The projected picture will appear blurry tailing or even jitter. To do this, a signal amplifier must be added to the signal source.

2. Inconvenient daily maintenance

The chances of a fixed ceiling mounted projector being removed are small unless a malfunction occurs. Therefore, routine maintenance such as dust removal, filter change, and cleaning of the lens is usually ignored, which will reduce the life of the projector. In addition, replacing the light bulb is also a chore.

3. Installation needs to be carried out by professionals

In order to ensure reliable installation, it is generally required to be fixed and adjusted by professionals. Moreover, the hangers necessary for lifting must be of appropriate size, and the screws and bolts must be matched. This part of the accessories often gives the manufacturer a monopoly, and the user can only accept it without help.

Summary: The hoist is suitable for use as a fixed projector, and it is most suitable for use in classrooms, demonstration halls, airports, etc. Of course, if the floor is too high for hoisting, then you have to use the desktop.

Side projection

Side-projection is an installation that has only recently emerged in the past few years and is usually paired with a desktop. Some of the demonstration halls that did not have a projector installed originally did not reserve the position of the projector. Even if the projection screen was barely attached, the projector would have no place. At this time, the side projection comes in handy: the projector can be placed in the direction opposite to the projection screen. As long as the horizontal keystone correction is adjusted, the screen can be restored to normal.

Summary: The projection body that supports the side-projection function is expensive, and emphasizes portability, so the application is not extensive. It is mainly suitable for temporary use in some occasions where there is no projection environment.

In the mainstream models, Sanyo Z1 does not support rear projection, Panasonic PT-M1S11, Epson EMP-7800, BenQ PB series, InFocus LP240, Toshiba S10, etc. all support front projection / rear projection, desktop / hoist, and Sony CX70/CX80, NEC's LT240K+ supports side projection. In fact, there are many different combinations of installation methods, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice of installation method depends on the actual site needs. When purchasing a projector, in addition to paying attention to the main parameters of the projector, whether you support the projection method you need must also be considered. Otherwise, it will be regrettable when the "hero is useless".
