Veeco's revenue this year will exceed 1 billion US dollars, China's largest contribution

[High-tech LED News] According to the forecast data of Veeco (Nasdaq: VECO) in 2011, Veeco's total revenue will exceed 1 billion US dollars, of which more than 50% will come from the Chinese market. At the press conference of the Veeco China Training Center on May 10th, Veeco Global CEO John R. Peeler revealed to the Gaogong LED reporter.

According to John R. Peele, Veeco's total revenue in 2010 was $933 million, of which nearly 30% came from the Chinese market, totaling $267 million, a significant increase from the $30 million in 2009. In 2010, Veeco supplied metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) systems to 20 customers, including existing LED manufacturers, joint ventures and new start-up companies.

As part of Veeco's Asia Pacific expansion plan announced last fall, Veeco's new China Training Center officially opened in Shanghai on May 10, which will provide better support for the fast-growing LED industry and its customers' needs.

At the launching ceremony, Mr. John R. Peeler said: “China is making large-scale investments to become the world's leading LED producer, and its products will be used for local consumption and overseas exports. In fact, China has clearly planned for 2015. By the end of the year, LEDs will achieve a 30% share of the domestic lighting market. Veeco will open a new customer support and training center in Shanghai to support the rapid growth of the Chinese market and further consolidate Veeco's leading position in this field."

Peter Collingwood, Veeco's senior vice president of sales and services, added: "Many of our customers are building new or large-scale expansion of their manufacturing facilities, most of which are located in the new 'LED Green Energy' campus. The purpose of opening a training center in Shanghai is to help Veeco's customers in China to move faster and smoother on the road to LED accelerated production."

It is reported that the new Veeco China Training Center covers an area of ​​about 1,700 square meters and has about 40 employees. The center has three classrooms and is equipped with the market leading Veeco TurboDisc® K465iTM MOCVD system. The training program will include an introduction to the TurboDisc MOCVD system, characterization of the film process, and more advanced hardware maintenance and troubleshooting practice training courses.

“This new training center is the first of its kind in China dedicated to the LED industry. Our goal is to provide professional training for hundreds of engineers in the next 12 months to familiarize them with Veeco's MOCVD system.” Veeco Mr. Wang Keyang, President and General Manager of Greater China, told the Gaogong LED reporter.

Mr. Peeler also said: "Veeco will invest more than 30 million US dollars in 2011 to expand its business in the Asia-Pacific region, helping our customers continue to accelerate the adoption of LED in consumer electronics and solid-state lighting. We will be in Hsinchu, Taiwan (expected Opened in August this year and Seoul, Korea (expected to open in early 2012) to open a new R&D, demonstration and processing support base."
