Organic EL lighting makes people's LEDs enter the popular period

LED lighting is gradually becoming popular in the society. It is estimated that the proportion of “LED” will reach 45% in 2016 (a). Organic EL lighting that catches up with LEDs is expected to begin to spread in the form of design lighting from around 2013 (b). The electricity consumption of lighting accounts for about 20% of the total electricity consumption in the world. In addition to the acceleration of the adoption of LED lighting by Japan's Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, Europe, which has a higher environmental awareness, is also paying more and more attention to reducing the power consumption of lighting.

Europe was originally a region that was very sensitive to the quality of lighting. In this year's Light+Building, companies have become more and more aware of the energy-saving and high value-added competition of LED and organic EL lighting. Looking around the entire exhibition venue, although it is the content of LEDs in the heyday, the eyes of the lighting industry are eager to focus on organic EL lighting.

The great charm of organic EL

Organic EL lighting has been in the research and development stage so far, but after entering 2011, mainly Japanese manufacturers, all companies began mass production. Although the development of performance in terms of luminous efficiency and brightness has been behind LED for several years, the feature of surface illumination is very attractive to lighting manufacturers and designers.

Although the LED as the main light source is currently in the leading position, the organic EL lighting market seems to be formed in the future in terms of achieving high design space.

In fact, the person in charge of the manufacturer of the organic EL panel said in unison: "The contact of the organic EL lighting business is surprising." For example, Mitsubishi Chemical, which has set up an organic EL booth at its group company Verbatim in the United States, said, “The prepared brochure will soon be finished, and then rushed to copy.
