Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has introduced a high-power white LED called "AcrIChe," which can be directly driven by the standard mains voltage (110V or 220V). Available in 2W and 4W versions, this LED is designed to look similar to conventional high-power LEDs of 1–3W. It also features a star-shaped structure mounted on an aluminum substrate, making it ideal for direct connection to the power grid without needing an external AC/DC converter.
The AcrIChe LED operates similarly to the configuration shown in Figure 4. Instead of using a single blue LED, it consists of multiple low-power blue LEDs connected in series and then coated with yellow phosphor to produce white light. This design allows the LED to maintain a compact size. For example, a 4W AcrIChe LED includes four units connected in series, as illustrated below.
This LED module is shaped like a typical 1–3W white LED, making it easy to integrate into existing lighting systems. LED lamps built with these high-power modules can replace traditional incandescent and fluorescent lights, paving the way for a new generation of energy-efficient lighting solutions.
