A colleague from our department returned to the office six months after being stationed in Tianjin. Due to the lack of broadband coverage in that remote area, he couldn't access the internet easily. For people who often work or travel in the field, having no reliable internet connection can be really inconvenient.
I personally started using a Huawei E5577 WiFi router, while my colleague used the E5573S (with built-in WiFi). I borrowed his device to compare it with my own and see how different it was.
The reason for purchasing this model was because my colleague originally planned to go to the China Unicom business office in Tianjin to sign up for a 4G "ice cream" package. This particular model, the E5573S-856, is a custom version made by Huawei for China Unicom. Even after six months, it's still available on Jingdong for 388 yuan.
Here are some photos of the device:
- A picture of the appearance
- After half a year of use
- Notice two antennas built into the Micro-USB port
- This is a customized version of the cooperation between China Unicom and Huawei, specifically tied to China Unicom’s 4G signal (though it also supports China Telecom’s 4G, it doesn’t support 3G) – essentially a pseudo-wide netcom solution
- Still uses a standard SIM card
- The battery capacity has slightly decreased after half a year
- The back of the casing has the WiFi name and password written on it
- When China Unicom 4G signal is strong, the LED turns green
- When the signal is weak, the LED turns red
In terms of experience:
- The first time connecting the device, it automatically opens the web interface for setup
- Using the Huawei HiLink app allows for easier management compared to the previous WiFi 2 model
- It supports smart power saving features
Overall, the Huawei E5573S is quite similar to the WiFi 2 model in functionality.
**Summary:**
Compared to the E5577 model, the E5573S lacks support for China Telecom’s 800MHz B5 segment on 4G and only supports China Unicom’s WCDMA 3G standard. This means it can only use China Unicom’s 3G network when 4G isn’t available.
**Advantages:**
1. Compact and easy to carry.
2. Can be managed via the Huawei HiLink app.
**Disadvantages:**
1. Relatively expensive for the features offered.
2. Limited support for other carriers’ networks, especially China Telecom and China Mobile 3G.
This device is ideal for those who primarily rely on China Unicom’s 4G and need a portable, manageable hotspot solution.
