The scale of the capacity transformation of the Northwest Power Grid is leading the country

It was learned from the Northwest Branch of State Grid Corporation that as of the end of 2017, the wind turbines of the Northwest Power Grid, Tianzhong and Lingshao DCs had completed 1.3 times of rated voltage and high voltage ride through capacity, and the scale was up to 3 million kilowatts. The 2 times rated voltage and high voltage ride through capacity have been transformed to 28 million kilowatts, and the transformation scope and scale are leading in the country.

The scope of capacity transformation of the Northwest Power Grid

It is understood that improving the high-voltage ride-through capability of the northwest wind-fired UHV DC-sending fan is a key factor in improving the DC and near-area wind power delivery capability, while the wind turbine high voltage ride-through is a systematic project with complex technical problems. At the beginning of 2017, the Northwest Branch of the State Grid established a project team for optimizing the performance of the wind turbines involved in the network. Through extensive research and in-depth argumentation, it combed the four aspects of technology, economy, system and standard to optimize the high-pressure capability of the fan in the UHV DC transmission area. The main influencing factors and solutions are from local pilots to comprehensive promotion to enhance the ability of large-scale wind power to safely absorb. The project team went to the site for investigation and repeated, put forward effective and feasible technical measures, and formulated a work plan from the pilot to the whole network. According to the unified organization of the Northwest Electric Power Control Sub-center, the five provinces (districts) power control center cooperated and implemented The principle of concrete implementation of the wind farm station, the improvement of the high voltage ride through performance of the wind turbine, and the promotion of the performance of the wind turbine involved in the network are carried out in an orderly manner.

At present, the transformation of high voltage ride through capacity of wind turbines in the Northwest Power Grid has achieved remarkable results. At the end of May 2017, the first pilot wind turbine with a high voltage ride-through capability of 1.3 times the rated voltage in Northwest China was tested at the No. 1 Wind Farm in Jiuquan, Gansu. The test results show that after some software and hardware upgrades, the pilot fan has reached a high voltage ride-through capability of 1.3 times continuous operation for 500 milliseconds. At the end of August of the same year, Gansu Huarun Bridge Bay First Wind Farm completed the conversion of 1.3 times rated voltage and high voltage ride-through capability of 34 sets of 50,000 kWh gold wind turbines, and passed the high wear capability test at the end of October.

In the next step, the Northwest Branch of the State Grid will continue to promote the transformation and testing of high voltage ride-through capability of wind turbines, simultaneously upgrade the UHV DC transmission capacity of the Northwest Power Grid and the ability of the near-zone wind turbines to actively track and participate in the revision of relevant national industry standards. Promote the effective improvement of the large-scale new energy security capacity of the Northwest Power Grid.
