STMicroelectronics Introduces Smart Home Software Platform Tightly Integrated with Set-Top Box Chips

STMicroelectronics (ST) launched smart home software. STMicroelectronics' smart home appliance software has enabled set-top boxes to evolve into smart home set-top boxes. A new class of equipment can manage home energy, home automation systems and home security surveillance systems, providing home users with a way to access digital multimedia content through appliances.

ST's smart home software will be pre-integrated into set-top boxes and home gateway system chips, such as STIG105 and STIG112 smart home chips; and multimedia gateway chips such as the popular STIH416 ('Orly') and the new Monaco Series products (STIH407, STiH410, STiH412). With this new development software framework, ST's customers can develop next-generation products that support innovative differentiated home energy management, security monitoring, automation services and other functions. Ultimately, this technology allows operators to offer users more value and revenue.

Gian Luca Bertino, executive vice president and general manager of digital convergence products at STMicroelectronics, said: "Increased support for smart home applications and services is the result of the natural evolution of set-top boxes, enabling operators to deliver innovative services that provide consistent use for users. Experience. The smart home software platform combines with our vast array of peripheral chips, such as home gateway system chips, network interconnect devices, sensors and actuators, to give developers everything they need to unlock this exciting new opportunity. ”

Based on open standards such as Linux, Java Virtual Machine and OSGi framework, Smart Home supports mainstream digital home standards such as Home Gateway Initiative (HGi), Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), and also supports intelligence. All major wireless communication protocols used in the home, such as ZigBee®, include the latest Smart Energy Profile 2.0, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, including IEEE 802.11n, and Near Field Communication (NFC). The software also supports Bluetooth® Smart Ready, as well as 2G, 3G or LTE cellular communication standards.

STMicroelectronics also introduced a hardware-containing reference design for the software platform, in which the hardware is an evaluation board with the STiG105 system chip. The Smart Home software platform helps original equipment manufacturers, operators and application developers quickly develop smart home application services.

The smart home platform allows users to control and interact with security cameras, home lighting, heating devices, multimedia devices on smart set-top boxes that install smart home software.
