Enlightenment 2 is equipped with Zen X7 and LED lighting on the 8-axis perfectly. What kind of shock will be shot at night?

With the growing popularity of consumer-grade drones, using drones equipped with flashlights and LED lights has become a new trend in creative filmmaking. This innovative approach offers unique lighting possibilities that can transform the visual storytelling experience. To showcase this, the short film "Memory" was entirely shot under the light of a drone, delivering a surreal and artistic effect.

Cinematic photographer Tim Sessler described the technique as a groundbreaking method of lighting in film: “From both a technical and creative perspective, using drones to carry light opens up new ways of illuminating scenes, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.”

However, the process wasn’t without its challenges. Installing lighting equipment on a drone proved difficult, and even the slightest movement during flight could cause the beam to shift, making it hard to maintain consistent lighting. To solve these issues, Sessler’s team developed custom solutions. They integrated multiple 100W LED chips into the MoVI Stabilization System to keep the light steady while the drone was in motion. The final setup included three powerful lighting fixtures: a 900W searchlight, a 400W spotlight with a parabolic mirror, and a Maxa Beam xenon lamp. These were carefully designed to provide high-quality illumination for cinematic shots.

The results of their efforts were stunning. Here are some stills from the film that highlight the dramatic lighting effects achieved through drone-mounted lights:

Another remarkable example comes from aerial filmmaker Ian Montgomery, who brought 150,000 lumens of drone lighting to the desert at night. His short film "Light of the Pass" used a Freefly ALTA 8-axis drone equipped with powerful LED lighting to create breathtaking visuals. The project was a collaboration with top director Phil Pastuhov, known for his work on major Hollywood productions. Together, they used the DJI Inspire 2 drone paired with the Zenith X7 Super 35mm camera to capture stunning footage in the vast desert landscape.

Montgomery shared his vision: “This film is the result of a great team effort. We aimed to challenge the viewer's perception of scale and space. I believe we succeeded.” Below are some still images that capture the dramatic lighting and striking visuals of the film:

If you're looking for a way to enhance your own drone photography or videography, consider using high-power remote-controlled spotlights like the FPV-Fever RC3000Dual. This model features dual high-power LED lights that can illuminate the night sky, giving your drone a striking appearance. It uses standard PWM control and is compatible with most remote control systems, making it easy to set up and use.
