Finally, we arrive at the third part of our comparison between Micro-Whale and Mi TV — a detailed analysis of their systems and content, which concludes our overall evaluation. I extended this process because I wanted more time to explore and write about the system in depth.
The core of any smart TV is its picture quality. If the image isn’t good, even the best features can’t make up for it. That said, the system experience is also crucial. Although each TV has different content, AirPlay (DLNA) makes it easy to access external sources.
Starting from the boot-up process, one of the most criticized aspects of internet brand TVs is the startup ads. When I turned on the Micro-Whale TV, it took 30 seconds to reach the main interface, while the Mi TV took 45 seconds. The Micro-Whale is definitely cleaner, as it doesn’t show any startup ads at all — I hope that stays the same.
What I really like about the Micro-Whale is its “sleep†function. Pressing the power button puts it into hibernation, and waking it up takes just 1 second. This feature is rare among other TVs like Xiaomi, LeTV, or CANTV, which take longer to boot up.
In terms of UI design, the Mi TV uses a horizontal layout called PatchWall, which is quite complex and offers many options. It’s very dynamic and visually appealing, with a waterfall-style flow that gives a sense of endless content. However, this complexity can be overwhelming for some users.
On the other hand, the Micro-Whale TV uses a vertical menu system that is much simpler and more intuitive. While it lacks the visual flair of Mi TV, it’s easier to navigate and more user-friendly, especially for less tech-savvy users.
When it comes to online content and membership, both TVs have their pros and cons. The Mi TV integrates with iQiyi, Tencent Video, and Youku, but not all platforms are fully supported. Some content requires separate memberships, and ads still appear even with a subscription. Meanwhile, the Micro-Whale TV is tied to Tencent Video, so its members can access all the content without extra fees.
Voice control and AI features are also important. Both TVs offer voice search through mobile apps, though the Micro-Whale now includes a Bluetooth-enabled voice remote. While the Mi TV has more advanced voice recognition, it still has limitations and often fails to understand complex commands.
Overall, the comparison shows that each TV has its own strengths. The Mi TV offers a richer, more dynamic UI and better content integration, while the Micro-Whale focuses on simplicity, speed, and ease of use. Depending on your preferences, one may suit you better than the other.
