About these things of the selfie, those feelings

First, let me say this: I'm a 30+ part-time female model. It was over-hygiene because the child was already several years old. I said goodbye to the modeling world for many years. However, after working as a part-time model for so long, I've gained some experience in being photographed and taking self-timers. I really enjoy taking selfies from various angles and in different situations.

Being a model is not just about body size—it's more about expression, look, and emotion. Just like an actor in a film or TV show, emotions are shown through expressions, not words. In other words, facial expressions, close-ups, and selfies are all crucial for a model.

Today, I want to share some tips on using a self-timer. Let's get started!

First, take a selfie. O(∩_∩)O haha~. Is it disappointing? No way! The kid is already a few years old, and I only wrote "part-time female model" after gathering a lot of courage. I've been abroad for many years, so this feels like a big step for me.

When it comes to taking photos and selfies, many people ask: "How do I look good?" There's a popular saying online that says there are no ugly women, only lazy ones. But I'd say: That's because you don't know the right techniques.

Step 1: Choose Ugly Clothes

In the US, people value friends, but your body can’t change overnight. So, why not choose clothes that hide your belly and cover your curves—basically, hiding the flaws?

Example: The following photo shows a yarn-like fabric, not as fluffy as cotton or linen. The key is that it's a fake two-piece jacket. The outer layer helps cover the stomach, commonly known as "hiding ugliness."

Step 2: Find the Right Camera Angle

1. Turn Your Waist: This can help hide waist fat. For girls, the most common issue is a "bucket waist." By turning your waist at a certain angle, taking a deep breath, lifting your chest, and raising your head, you can effectively reduce the appearance of waist fat and look more elegant. Remember: Take a breath! Take a breath! Take a breath!

2. Side Face with Neck Stretch: This helps hide a double chin. A subtle side face shot can make your neck look longer and your chin more defined. Just tilt your head slightly and push your chin forward to create a more elongated look.

3. Shooting Angle: Highlight your best features and cover up the rest. I remember once when I was getting married, my friend took pictures from above, and all I saw was a big head. Many people do this without realizing it.

Example 1: I prefer shooting from the bottom up, which makes legs look longer. If you're tall, it adds to the effect. If you're not, it helps make your legs look longer too.

Example 2: From a different angle, the next picture is a counterexample. Shooting from below forces the chin down, making a double chin more visible. I sometimes shoot against the light to cover skin imperfections and give the illusion of flawless skin. But backlighting can blur details, so always consider the lighting.

Step 3: Use Accessories

Accessories can also help cover up flaws. If your eyes are small, wear sunglasses. If your neck is thick, use a scarf. For me, who has small eyes and a thick neck, wearing both sunglasses and a scarf gives an instant boost in confidence. Add some earrings, and you’re instantly more stylish.

Step 4: Makeup

Although phone filters can help enhance your look, I still believe in natural makeup. Phone beauty modes often lack depth and can look unnatural. As a teacher, I don’t wear heavy makeup, but I do keep it light. I’ve used L’Oréal products for years, but after advice from a makeup artist, I switched to Shu Uemura’s chopper pencil. It’s easier for beginners to control and doesn’t look too harsh.

I used to think liquid foundation was the same as BB cream, but I learned that liquid foundation lasts longer. I now use it for daily wear. I prefer colorless lipsticks for light makeup, but when I need to take a selfie or go out, I go for something brighter.

Step 5: Use a Fascinating Look/Eye Contact

As mentioned before, a photo, especially a close-up, is all about eye contact. A captivating gaze can draw people in. It takes practice, but you can start by studying supermodels. Even if you can’t copy everything, you can find inspiration.

Final Thoughts

Improving your style and presence happens gradually. Even if you're not perfectly shaped, you can still carry elegance. I personally love people with charm and grace.

1. Read fashion magazines like VOGUE or ELLE. Learn how to mix and match outfits, instead of just buying expensive clothes that don’t suit you. (Not that I’m judging vegetable sellers, but dressing appropriately for the occasion matters.)

2. Watch model competitions. Observe how models carry themselves, their expressions, and how they communicate emotion through their eyes.

3. Walk around branded clothing stores. You might not be able to afford them, but you can still stay updated on trends and develop a sense of style.

I hope these tips help you feel more confident. In the future, I’ll share more on how to build and maintain a stylish presence. Feel free to leave comments if you have any questions—I’ll reply as soon as I can. Thank you for reading!
