Manfrotto Manfrotto 290 Xtra Carbon & 190 Go! Tripod experience

Foreword

In fact, just eight years of playing with photography was only less than a year old. After detonating the absolute entry-level Nikon D40, Nikon Df was purchased, directly into the ranks of the entire deputy, actually considered the D810 and D750, but the former Too heavy, the latter is more expensive than the others, and the extra functions (focus system and camera) are not available to me who don't shoot birds and animals, and the micro-single is not out of A7R2 at that time, so it will not be considered for the time being. Now.

After that, the subject matter that he began to read also began to focus on scenery and urban architecture. For no other reason, young people still walked. They always wanted to conquer some places that ordinary people could not reach, and waited until the next day they really could not move their equipment. Then slowly holding a micro shot life.

In the beginning, it actually did not consider tripods. There was no guidance from anyone. Even the difference between the filters was not clear. There was no awareness of this, and it was really trying to achieve the effect of some slow doors or the dynamics of the PS itself. Obscure, either hard to paint yourself, so what comes out is this:

This is a slow-moving door effect that is drawn by a little hand-drawing. It's very hard and it's not very real.

This is a cloud with dynamic blurring, and the degree of reality is far less effective than actual shooting.

It can be clearly seen that without a tripod, the subject matter is greatly limited, and the photographs taken take a lot of time to make up for the gaps in the early stages. The theme is more to rely on surrealism. It will not be surprising. As for topics such as Hoshino photography, waterfalls, and waves, you don’t even think about it.

The other is that when shooting certain subjects, the equipment is not protected and people are often very embarrassed.

Finding yourself for these two reasons ( limited play, damage to the equipment ) is not so tangled, but for ordinary street shooting, studio shooting, portraiture, travel photography, etc., you must have a tripod. Strange.

Select

The preparatory work was not much. Basically, it was on the forum to see how you chose the tripod, what tripod you chose, and heard the so-called " three tripods, the last one is Gitzo ". However, at present, Gieslaw has not made my heart besides the marine series. However, the first tripod is tens of thousands and I am not based on marine photography. He is still hesitant:

So in the head of a hot ready to start GK15810, saw a big recommendation for the rim, MK290XT, the domestic model may be slightly different but are under the 290 series, because their own backpack is also used by Manfrotto Well, with my own PTZ, I don't need to study it again (I still don't know the difference between PTZ). So I didn't hesitate to start with Meiya.

Starting price includes PTZ 299 knife, as a carbon fiber stand is still very cost-effective

As you can see, I retired this tripod. I will explain why.

Out of the box

The packaging indicates the body

When it comes to the box is much larger than expected, open the inside there is only the tripod, instructions

When it came, the box was much larger than it was supposed to be. There was only a tripod, instructions, and a quick plate to open it.

Carbon fiber weave pattern is still very good

I spent only one week on this tripod, and then I retired. I went to the National Lakeshore and Forest Park this week. There are several major problems:

1, since major , even if the camera is not installed in the case, this tripod backpack can still clearly change the balance on the backpack; (here to say is, after the purchase of tripod or check the official website data, Amazon's true Can't believe it)

2, the minimum length is too long , the minimum length of 74cm (not including the PTZ) you can take a ruler about their own. This length is a problem whether it is picking or placing;

3, pull- lock type lock, in fact, buckle-style and spiral type each has its own merits, mainly for the convenience of locking, but the problem of its own structure in the sand when it is easier to accumulate dust, I in the national lakeshore After two days of use, the buttonholes were already filled with fine sand. Many sands were difficult to clean out due to locking and unfastening of the back and forth. In addition, it was very easy for the mix-button type to start gripping. .. And a clip of red...

All in all, this tripod is not very suitable for outdoor photography, and more should still be taken in the city to take architectural themes. But this time still got a lot of works:

This is the autumn galaxy photographed on the national lakeshore. It was originally a shooting star in the Dragon and South Taurus meteors.

The boulders of the national lakeshore, you can see the slow doors make the clouds very natural, and the lake is particularly quiet

The sunset of the harbor, the reality is more reddish

HDR shooting becomes very easy with a tripod

More exaggerated is that it is easier to shoot stitching pictures, this is a 3 single shot stitching

After shooting with multiple tripods, the final composite HDR and multi-splicing will also be very convenient. The above two images are combined with 3 exposures, and the following are three spliced images. LR is used to identify the image content. It's really amazing. (There's an internal panorama of the forest. Because all of them are similar trees, I can't tell with the naked eye what the final LR is.)

These are shot by Nikon 20mm 1.8G prime lens, using LEE's 3.0 10-speed ND mirror:

The 10-speed ND mirror is mainly used because the scenery will not run, so I don't have to worry about not being bright enough. I only have to worry about the exposure time is not long enough, and this extreme gear can fully satisfy my long-term exposure needs.

This lens can basically do a mirror in the scenery, if there is a long-term demand I will change telephoto.

After retiring 290, I revisited the 190 series in the Manfrotto tripod family. The 190Go! is the main light and travel photography. It is also the same as the three-axis head in the Gimhae, just like the 290. I also found it very convenient to use, and the pull buckle is replaced by a spiral buckle, adjustable gear has also been replaced by a fourth gear, better flexibility, plus the central axis horizontal, it can be considered a star weapon.

It is still quite cost-effective to pay 349 knives

It may be Amazon's price error. Without the Pantai's version and the official website's price of 399 knives, the PTZ version (that is, the official website and B&H are all 469), and it is actually paid 349 knives, plus I have retired my own PTZ. (explained later) Back to 70 knives, and finally the actual trip 279 knife is still quite cost-effective.

The volume of the box is already smaller than the 290.

Compared with 290, it is obvious that there is a clear advantage in weight and length.

This is the actual minimum size after PTZ, which is still a qualitative change from 290

The two heads are basically the same, and the domestic 190 knobs are a little different.

The two heads are basically the same, but they can also choose the ball head, which is not the same as the 190 series (not this 190 Go!) head that I saw in the forum, so I retired, or I want to change the knob type , And this smoothness is not as good as the 290, not too much understanding.

Spiral buckle, color is pretty pretty, but compared with the blue of the Giessen Marine series dwarfed

The material is still a carbon fiber foot tube and an aluminum alloy metal piece, which differs from the 290 in weaving.

The upper and lower two are the code of the leg tube, the middle is the code of the axis, and the 290 leg is completely in the middle.

The upper and lower two are the code of the leg tube, the middle is the code of the central axis, and the 290 leg tube is completely the middle of this code. The middle axis is the magnesium alloy.

The axis after fully rising

After tapping, shooting Hoshino is more convenient, before 290 would be because of the angle adjustment knob

After tapping, shooting Hoshino is even more convenient. Before 290, the angled handles would have to be removed from the stand itself and the camera must be removed to change the direction of the fast plate. Shooting a large elevation angle subject like the sky would be very troublesome.

Quick connection interface, I heard that it can be connected to other tripods. I haven’t used this function yet.

The difference between Axis function and 290 is that it can be tapped, but it cannot be removed and re-entered. It can be considered as a matter of merit. For me, the 190 method is more suitable for the subject of my filming. I have tried again for the reentry of 290. The display screen cannot be free. Turning this feature is almost abolished.

There is no difference in the function of the quick-loading board between the two. Compared with the 190, the workmanship is more refined.

This is what it looks like after it is fully assembled

In terms of functionality and stability, the difference between the two is not significant. The 190 Go! is not sacrificing stability due to weight loss. It is also a four-star and a half star rating on Amazon and B&H. It is really very Excellent tripod.

In this kind of place, the light weight of the tripod really helps

to sum up

On the whole, the purchase of the tripod was still smooth, making full use of the Amazon’s return policy. Once the two tripods were completed, there was no human guidance. Therefore, they were also twists and turns and had just entered the pit. , I also hope to give other people a little reminder and suggestions.
