After purchasing the Nokia (NOKIA) Steel smartwatch, I wasn’t entirely sure why I chose it at first. There was a small sense of design faith involved. When I first got in touch with a Nokia smartwatch, it was still called Withings, a smart wearable technology company that had been acquired by Nokia last year.
Back then, the icon on the watch face was the Withings logo. But less than a year later, it was replaced with the Nokia logo and became a genuine Nokia product.
**NOKIA Steel Smartwatch – Appearance**
**1.1 Unboxing**
The packaging of the Nokia Steel smartwatch shows no trace of Withings. Only the Nokia logo and the 36mm dial size are visible. The box is compact, with basic product information in both Chinese and English on the back. Unfortunately, the Chinese text is covered by a piece of paper, making it hard to read. It supports iOS 8+ and Android 4.3 systems.
When I pulled out the watch from the outer packaging, the box was made of cardboard, all white, with the Nokia logo on the front. It had a slight magnetic closure, allowing you to see the watch as soon as you open it.
Inside the box, you’ll find the watch, a pin for battery replacement, and an instruction manual. Notably, the watch uses a button battery instead of a charger. This confused me when I first opened it—why no charger? What’s the purpose of the pin? I asked customer support, but they couldn’t explain it clearly. The manual is very brief, leaving some functions unclear.
**1.2 Design and Build**
At first glance, it feels like a regular watch. I don’t immediately see where the intelligence comes into play. The dial color matches the black strap, and the display shows time and sports data. There's just the Nokia logo, nothing too flashy. The strap is made of soft silicone, which is comfortable against the skin. However, there’s only one strap included. If you want to change it, you can buy additional straps from online stores.
Compared to the previous Steel HR model, the Steel has a smaller LCD screen and a different logo style. The mineral glass on my Steel HR was not very scratch-resistant, while this one has a curved glass that looks more elegant. The clasp is more refined than the Steel HR, with the Nokia logo printed on a thicker material.
The strap is black, with smaller holes, making it easier to adjust. It also has a hydrophobic structure inside. The back of the watch is just a stainless steel cover without a heart rate sensor. It’s thinner than the Steel HR, with a card pin on top for battery replacement. Be careful when replacing the battery—it can leave scratches on the back.
**II. Usage**
**2.1 App Experience**
Before using the app, I had to unpair my previous Steel HR. Then, I followed the instructions to connect the new watch to my phone. Once activated, I could use the training feature.
Previously, the app wasn’t well-optimized, and most of it was in English. After an update, it was renamed “Health Mate.†The interface is clearer now, tracking steps and sleep quality. Each entry has a description, but there's no daily summary or comparison chart.
The dashboard and journal aren't very interactive. I can set alarms on the device, like a morning alarm clock.
**2.2 Daily Use**
Since it uses a button battery, battery life isn't something to discuss. Replacing it is easy: just use the pin to remove the back cover. However, after closing it, there's a bit of moisture inside.
Wearing it feels good. The silicone strap is soft and comfortable. It’s waterproof, so I don’t worry about water getting inside. It’s very user-friendly.
**III. Summary**
**Advantages:**
- I like its design and comfort.
- Easy to use as a regular watch.
**Disadvantages:**
- The mineral glass and stainless steel frame are prone to scratches.
- No backlight, making it hard to read at night.
- Price around $1000 for a button battery.
- No call notifications, and fitness tracking is limited to steps and sleep.
heat shrink tube is typically used in applications where there is no need for additional protection against moisture or other environmental factors. It is available in various sizes and colors to accommodate different wire and cable diameters.
The installation process involves sliding the heat shrink tube over the item to be covered and then applying heat, usually with a heat gun, to shrink the tube and create a secure fit. This process provides insulation and protection against abrasion, chemicals, and other potential damage.
heat shrink tube is commonly used in electronics, automotive, aerospace, and other industries where wire and cable management is important. It is a cost-effective solution for protecting and organizing electrical components.
