A major change in the development of the GB50034-2004 standard is to increase the maximum allowable value of LPD for 108 types of commonly used rooms or places in offices, residences, businesses, hotels, hospitals, schools, and industries, except for residential buildings. The LPD restrictions of the other six types of buildings are mandatory standards, which is also the first in the history of lighting design standards in China.

The current global pressure for energy conservation and environmental protection has gradually increased, and the significance of LPD values ​​has become more prominent. It is understood that the current revision of the standard, LPD value may make greater adjustments, so that the LPD value more in line with energy conservation trends and requirements, will focus on how to reduce the LPD value of existing buildings, expand the energy saving of room types in public buildings Standard regulations and other issues.

It should be noted that the specification of LPD values ​​and possible further reductions can be a great challenge for lighting design. For example, in the implementation of the standard reality, the LPD value satisfying the energy-saving regulations and the aesthetic decoration requirements for realizing the building are often “can't have both fish and bear's paw”, and it is also the most troublesome thing for the architect.

Some designers indicated that, especially in hotel lighting design, incandescent lamps or halogen lamps are effective in controlling light. Many hotels, including some foreign hotel chains, will use incandescent lamps in large quantities when they are fitting. The energy-saving aspect will definitely exceed the standard, and energy-saving inspections must also fail to pass. This situation of energy saving and decoration requirements cannot always be combined. This often leads to conflicts between the designer and Party A. "Whether it is focusing on results or saving energy? Or finding a balance between the two requires a clearer standard stipulation," said a designer.

Some experts even stated that the LPD value may limit the number of installed lights, but this should not be the whole measure of energy saving. The energy saving achieved through intelligent lighting is considerable, and the status of lighting control should be higher than the value of LPD.
