Hitachi Koki releases new portable power supply with 38Ah lead-acid battery

On August 24, 2011, Hitachi Kogyo released its portable power supply, Hitachi Portable Power EH 400D [I-BOX JUMBO]. In March 2011, the company introduced a portable power supply "Hitachi Hybrid Power Supply EH 400 [I-BOX]" equipped with a 3Ah capacity lithium ion rechargeable battery for gardening tools and power tools. The development of this time added a lead-acid battery with a capacity of 38 Ah to further increase the capacity. In addition to Hitachi's gardening tools and power tools, home appliances such as flat panel TVs, personal computers, lighting products, and fans can also be used in places where AC power is not available. The intended use is as an emergency source of power in the event of a disaster.

This development includes an I-BOX main unit, a “sine wave adapter”, a lead storage battery (capacity of 38 Ah), and a lithium ion rechargeable battery (capacity of 3 Ah). The function of the IBOX host is to convert the direct current (DC) power into AC100V power. The function of the sine wave adapter is to convert the waveform of the AC100V power supply from a square wave to a sine wave. In addition to the output AC100V, lead batteries and lithium ion rechargeable batteries can output DC12V and DC14.4V, respectively, from the Cigar Socket. Hitachi Machine Tool stated that "Lead-battery batteries use ordinary emergency power supply products, and lithium-ion rechargeable batteries follow the products used in our company's power tools." The company did not develop batteries, but "purchased from a number of battery manufacturers including group companies" (Hitachi Koki).

Hitachi Construction Machinery envisages the following three methods of use by using the above components in combination. The first method is a combination of an I-BOX master, a sine wave adapter, and a lead battery. The power capacity of 300Wh, AC100V drive, power consumption equivalent to 60W products can be used continuously for about 5 hours. According to Hitachi Construction Machinery's measurement results, the specific product drive time, 19-inch LCD TV (power consumption measured 41W) is about 7 hours, notebook computers (power consumption measured 14W) is about 14 Hours, the fan (power consumption measured 30W) is about 9 hours. The dimensions at this time are 591mm x 395mm x 297mm, and the weight is about 26kg.

The second method of use is a combination of an I-BOX master, a sine wave adapter, and a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Although the power capacity is only 25Wh, it is easier to carry around than using the first type of lead battery. According to Hitachi Construction Machinery's measurement results, the notebook computer can drive about 2 hours, LED desk lamp (power consumption measured value is 9W) can drive about 3 hours. The third use is to use the I-BOX host and a lithium-ion rechargeable battery in combination. Unlike the second method, a sine wave adapter is not used, so the waveform of the AC100V power supply is a rectangular wave. Therefore, Hitachi Kogyo "wants to use only when driving its own company garden tools and power tools."

The development product will be listed on September 1, 2011. In terms of price, the "EH 400D (A1) type" (consisting of an I-BOX main unit, a sine wave adapter, and a lead storage battery) is 135,000 yen, and "EH 400D (A2) type" (with additional lithium ion charging in A1) Battery) is 151,000 yen. For users who have already purchased the Hitachi Hybrid Power EH 400 [I-BOX], the "EH 400D (A3) type", which includes only sine wave adapters and lead batteries, will be available for 114,000 yen.

Hitachi Koki will exhibit development products at "JAPAN DIY HOMECENTER SHOW 2011" held at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center on August 25-27, 2011.
